How do I book?
It's easy. There are three ways to do this:
- Register on this site and follow the application procedure explained on the apply/book tab.
- Telephone our office for an application form to be posted to you
- If you're passing - just pop in.
Can I book before I get my A Level results?
If you are a first year student awaiting your A Level results you can now book with DIGS student accommodation before you receive your results, safe in the knowledge that if you don't make the grades we will release you from the contract and refund any monies paid. This offer only applies if the University of Huddersfield is your first choice of university and only if the grades needed are not met.
Can I have a look at the accommodation before I book?
Of course! Call the Accommodation Office on 01484 473104/472780 to book an appointment.
What does the weekly rent cover?
Everything! The weekly price covers the cost of renting your room and using the shared facilities of the property. It also includes the 12Mb Fibre Optic broadband internet package, contents insurance up to £4000 and all your bills so there are no surprises!
Do I need to pay a deposit or booking fee?
Yes, in order to secure a room at Storthes Hall, you will need to pay a £200 reservation fee when you return your Licence Agreement. This becomes a £50 non refundable booking fee and £150 deposit once you have moved in. This is completely seperate from your annual rent.
Do I need to buy a TV licence?
Normal TV Licensing Authority regulations apply to any TV you bring yourself. All TV's provided by the DIG student accommodation include a licence. For more information on TV licensing visit: www.tvlicensing.co.uk. Please note that DIGS are not held responsible for ensuring you have a TV licence.
Do I need to pay Council Tax?
If you are a full time student then you will not need to pay council tax.
Can I move in early?
Yes you can, by prior arrangement with the Accommodation Office. To arrange an earlier move in date please contact DIGS student accommodation on 01484 473104/472780.
Can I live with my friends?
Yes we would be happy to make you a group booking. There is a facility on your application form to add the names of persons you wish to live in the same flat and/or room with. Your friends also need to have the same names on their application. In order to be allocated together, we recommend yu send your booking forms back at the same time.
Can I change rooms?
If you move in and do not like the room or you have friends in another flat that you wish to live with, then we will, wherever possible, try and move you. This is subject to space being available. A £30 administration charge is applicable.
Can I bring my car?
There is limited parking at Storthes Hall Park so book early to avoid disappointment, a permit is required and has a small admin fee of £50 for 2011/12. These are issued on a first come, first serve basis, and can be requested at the time of booking.
How do I report a problem?
We have on site maintenance on hand at Storthes Hall to ensure that the site runs smoothly. To report an issue you will need to contact the Reception/Site Security.
Can I change my mind?
Before signing the Licence Agreement you can cancel your booking. Once you have completed and returned your Licence Agreement you will be liable for the full term of the contract. Please refer to our Cancellation Policy.
Am I allowed visitors?
Of course! This is your home so you are more than welcome to invite any friends. Providing your room mates don’t mind, neither do we! You can have a guest stay over one night per week. These guests must be signed in at reception for health and safety regulations.
If I need help, where do I go?
We have a fully staffed site 24/7 where you can report faults, seek medical attention or just have a friendly chat! We’re here to help you whatever the problem is. If you need to contact us outside of office hours, please ring 01484 488 888 for safety and security.
I'm in a wheelchair, is there easy access for me?
Yes, absolutely. There is easy access to the site as well as plenty of disabled apartments available for you to move into.
How can I make a complaint?
If you would like to contact a member of team regarding a problem you have encountered, please use our contact form or send an email to customer.services@southstreetam.co.uk. Your query will be dealt with as soon as possible, and you can expect a response within 10 working days. Some queries may take longer to investigate but we will be in touch to advise you of this.
It is important to clarify the difference between a maintenance fault and a complaint. If you are experiencing a problem with something in your room or communal area, please contact your Accommodation Office/site reception. Please use the complaints form for any problems you have experienced with a member of staff or the service provided.
Before a complaint is made, have you made the office staff aware of your complaint/issue? If not you may find it useful to discuss your concerns with the team on site.
You can also use the contact form to let us know if a member of staff has been particularly helpful.
What are the gym opening hours?
The gym at Storthes Hall Park is open from 8am until 10pm and is accessible by a key fob, seven days a week.
How much does the launderette cost?
The launderette situated at Storthes Hall Park costs £2 for a wash cycle and £1 for dry cycle.
What are the shop opening hours?
The shop on site at the Storthes Hall campus is open seven days a week. Monday to Friday the shop is open between 8am and 10pm and is open 9am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday.
My internet connection is not working. What shall I do?
You can contact Keycom on 01484 927000 or visit their website at www.keycom.co.uk.
Is there a gym on site?
Yes, there is! We have a gym on site situated next to the launderette. You can either buy an academic year pass for £65 or a session pass for £2.50. Buy online or purchase a membership once you have moved in.
Is contents insurance included in my rent?
Yes, we provide contents insurance with your room and you can find the insurance policy document here. We provide contents insurance up to £4000 but you can upgrade your insurance package if you have items that need specialist polices or are worth more than £4000. You will also need to register your address with Endsleigh once you have checked-in. When you register you can also upgrade your policy if you would like to. It's important to confirm your address so that Endsleigh can send your insurance certificate to you. You can register your address online here.
Can I live at Ashenhurst Houses if I study at The University Campus in Oldham/Barnsley?
You can of course come and stay with us whichever University of Huddersfield campus you decide to study at. However, please be advised that the commute distances may not suit your timetable. Will I get mobile phone signal at Storthes Hall Park?
As with any area, some mobile phone providers have better coverage than others. We advise you to check with your service provider to see what coverage they offer in the Kirkburton area.
Do I need to bring a TV aerial?
If you wish to bring a TV with you to university, you will need to bring a set top aerial with you as there are no connection points in the study bedrooms. You will also need a TV licence.
